To delete Categories from within product, you need to click on the Category Name hyperlink, this then takes you to::
Product Category Information
there you will find a DELETE and SAVE Button

Sorry, I was in a hurry and wasn’t more descriptive. Currently when you go into categories list, Click to edit category and go through delete process, it does not delete. You can edit category and save new category name, but delete does not function. on Confirmation, page goes to delete product and confirming once again still does not delete. Version: 2.676
